Manchester United’s main objective in the upcoming transfer window is to overhaul their midfield, with particular focus on securing an ideal successor for Casemiro.
INEOS had initially earmarked Elliot Anderson as the Brazilian’s long-term replacement, but at present, Manchester City appear to be leading the race for his signature.
Other names under consideration include Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. However, Newcastle United’s valuation of Anderson and his wage demands have become significant hurdles in negotiations.
Meanwhile, West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes has attracted attention from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, further complicating United’s pursuit. Despite their relegation, the Hammers are standing firm on their asking price and unwilling to lower it.
The Portuguese midfielder is viewed as more of a potential successor to Bruno Fernandes, which means the Red Devils are still searching for someone to fill the void left by their five-time Champions League-winning midfielder.
Or perhaps that vacancy has already been addressed. United have reached an agreement with Atalanta for the signing of Ederson, though the initial belief was that the Brazilian would serve as a replacement for Manuel Ugarte.
However, according to a report from Sports Center Brazil, the 26-year-old could in fact be Casemiro’s direct replacement.
The report reveals that before departing Old Trafford, Casemiro personally urged INEOS to sign Ederson to take his place in the team.
“Casemiro recommended Ederson to Manchester United before leaving.”
The Peoples Person has previously examined Ederson’s capacity to operate at the base of midfield—a role he has fulfilled under three different managers during his tenure at Atalanta’s Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.
Nevertheless, Ederson’s strengths are best showcased as a dynamic box-to-box midfielder, capable of making late runs into the penalty area to support attacking play.
It remains to be seen whether Michael Carrick has alternative tactical plans for the new arrival.
For now, Manchester United supporters will be eager to see their latest signing in action, particularly after Ederson’s inclusion in Brazil’s World Cup squad.
