Was it fair to fire him after just 3 hours, or should the employee have been given a chance to learn? Did the owner make a big mistake by making a hasty decision as soon as the fourth customer arrived? Is there no scope for even small mistakes in the new job? Does this viral Reddit post highlight the harsh reality of the modern workplace and the increasing pressure on employees?
Fast Food Worker Fired: These days, such a shocking story is going viral in the social media and corporate world, which has started a new debate on the rights of employees and the attitude of employers. When a young man got a job in a fast-food joint after an endless search for employment, his happiness knew no bounds. But he was completely unaware that his happiness was going to turn into a bitter nightmare in just 180 minutes i.e. three hours. Within three hours of his first shift starting, he was shown the door. The owner's argument was, "There is no room for error here."

Training in silence... and then suddenly a storm came!
The victim employee shared his ordeal on social media platform Reddit in a post titled: "Fired within 3 hours of my first shift at a fast-food joint." The young man told that he had reached the restaurant before the scheduled time to learn the work and help. In the beginning, when the restaurant was empty, the owner explained to him how to work. The young man wrote, "There was complete silence, so I just got the job explained to me and I just stood there looking around for an hour." But the real test began when the afternoon rush increased and long lines of customers formed.
Fourth customer came and career took a break
As customers began arriving, the young man was put to work setting tables and preparing burgers while the head cook cooked the meat. Since it was his first day, it was taking him some time to pack the burgers properly and professionally. When the boss interrupted him and asked him to move faster, the new employee politely replied that he was just trying to get used to the new process and would soon get up to speed. But the boss did not like this argument. As soon as the fourth customer came to the restaurant, the owner called him aside in the middle of his work and suddenly issued an order to fire him.
The owner told the young man: “This job is not for you because you don't have the basic knowledge. This is a 'you have to learn on your own' kind of place." The boss pointed out his many small mistakes and said that when there would be a huge crowd on Saturday, he would not be able to handle the work at this pace. However, the owner apologized for his haste, paid the young man for his three hours' time and immediately sent him home.
"This happened in the subway too..." People's anger erupted on the internet
As soon as the post went viral on the internet, social media users were enraged and flooded with comments in support of the new employee. People were surprised as to how an employer could not give at least a day's time to a new person to learn the job.
Many questions raised on social media
Netizens gave their strong reactions to the incident:
- The first user sympathized, saying: "As long as you didn't put meat on the outside of the bun, there was no unteachable mistake."
- Another user shared his bitter experience, writing: "I too was fired at Subway on my second day at work because I was late during the lunch rush. They told me how to make subs just five minutes before I started."
- One former retail manager classed the owner as saying: "With attitudes like that they'll never get good employees, but that's their problem, not yours anymore."
Experts and social media users have advised the young man to forget this bad experience and not include it in his resume or application. This incident clearly shows how the 'learning curve' for new employees is shrinking in some workplaces today.
