Shyamu elephant has been coming out for a long time with the ride of Mahakal in Ujjain. There has been controversy regarding this before and now once again the controversy seems to be heating up. Questions are being raised about Shyamu’s health for the last 9 months.
Please note that Shyamu is being taken care of under the supervision of experts. Now recently there was a controversy when a joint team of Panna Tiger Reserve, Indore and Ujjain arrived to conduct health checkup and take blood samples. Here the elephant owner and his family did not allow the team to do its work.
Controversy broke out regarding Shyamu
The team had come to collect blood samples to find out about Shyamu’s health. But after the controversy escalated, she returned with only excreta samples without taking blood samples. The team says that when they reached the spot to investigate, Shyamu was chained there.
Sample was not allowed to be taken
When the team tried to take blood sample by injection for health checkup, the elephant Malik Sarman Giri and his family protested vehemently. The commotion and debate continued for a long time. The team that arrived for investigation says that the elephant has a problem. The owner says that he is completely healthy.
Is the elephant facing problems?
Veterinarian Dr. Mukesh Jain says that the team had arrived for routine health checkup as Shyamu is a Schedule 1 category wild animal under the Wildlife Protection Act. The elephant has a serious problem with its legs and its legs have started bending. In such a situation, he can fall at any time while walking. Blood test was to be done to know the exact condition of the disease but it could not be done due to protests.
Our Ramu is healthy: owner
Elephant Malik Sarman Giri has rejected the claims of the health team and said that Shyamu is completely healthy. He said that he has been handling this elephant since 2006 and he has valid documents. He alleged that some people want to remove the elephant from here and send it to Vantara or some zoo, hence it is being said that it is sick. He said that if he had a problem with his legs then how would he have been able to participate in the ride from 2016 till now. He was seen questioning that if Shyamu is unfit then why has he been allowed to participate in the ride to Mahakal Temple.
