Before the clash between South Korea and the Czech Republic, Mexican fans gathered in the Guadalajara fan zone spotted a South Korean supporter and joyfully lifted him into the air, turning the moment into an impromptu celebration of unity and excitement.
Resourcefulness was also on display among South Korean fans heading into Akron Stadium. Since security strictly prohibited bringing bottles of tequila into the stands, they found clever ways to keep the festive spirit alive – and their inventive reaction soon went viral.
Tequila, in fact, seemed to be the unofficial star of the day. A Brazilian journalist covering the event confirmed that the drink featured prominently in the celebrations across various fan zones.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s performance in the opening match against Mexico left much to be desired. Their 0–2 loss was reflected not only on the scoreboard but also on the expressions of national football legends such as Benny McCarthy and Quinton Fortune, who appeared visibly disappointed during the live broadcast.
