The National Testing Agency (NTA) has begun preparations for the NEET re-exam (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). As part of this process, the NTA has announced specific changes, including modifications to the layout of the answer booklet. Candidates will now receive more pages for rough work during the exam. Additionally, the NTA has clarified that the total duration for the exam will be 195 minutes, effectively granting an extra 15 minutes for the re-exam. The NTA has described these as candidate-friendly changes. However, it remains unclear whether these modifications will apply to future NEET exams as well.
Let us understand the matter in detail. We will look at when the NEET re-exam is scheduled, the reasons behind it, and the specific changes introduced by the NTA.
**Four pages for rough work instead of two; answer booklet layout also changed**
To enhance candidate convenience, the NTA has announced changes to the layout of the answer booklet, specifically increasing the number of pages allocated for rough work. Candidates will now have four pages available for rough work during the exam, up from the previous two.
The design of the booklet has also been altered. Previously, pages for rough work were provided only at the end of the booklet. Under the revised design, two pages for rough work will be placed at the beginning (immediately following the instructions page) and two at the end. The NTA noted that while the previous layout worked well for many, feedback indicated it was less convenient for some—particularly left-handed candidates. Keeping this in mind, two rough work pages have now been positioned at the start of the booklet, while the remaining two will be available at the end. The NTA has clarified that a new layout design has been incorporated into both the English and regional language versions of the question paper, allowing candidates to use any page according to their convenience.
**195 minutes allotted to solve the NEET paper**
Candidates will now have 195 minutes for the NEET re-examination. This provides an additional 15 minutes to solve the paper compared to the previous duration. The NTA stated that the exam duration has been extended to 195 minutes based on feedback received from candidates over the years. The NTA has clarified that the NEET re-examination will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. This extended duration accounts for the time required for mandatory exam formalities, such as signing the attendance sheet and other verification procedures.
**NEET re-exam on June 21 due to paper leak**
The NTA had conducted the NEET-UG exam on May 3. While the provisional answer key was released on May 6, a paper leak incident came to light, leading to the cancellation of the NEET-UG exam. The CBI is investigating the paper leak case. The NEET re-examination is now scheduled to be held on June 21.
