On Friday, the Delhi High Court heard a petition filed by Bollywood actor Salman Khan seeking to restrain the release and promotion of the film 'Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy'. Salman Khan alleges that the film violates his personality rights and harms his reputation.
**What was argued in court on behalf of Salman Khan?**
According to ANI, this matter is linked to a pending commercial suit filed by Salman Khan, which pertains to the protection of his personality and publicity rights.
During the hearing in Justice Neena Bansal Krishna's court, Advocate Nizam Pasha, representing Salman Khan, stated, "The High Court had previously granted protection to Salman Khan's personality rights in an earlier order." The counsel argued that despite this protection, a poster released on May 29 allegedly depicts a person resembling Salman Khan, wearing a blue bracelet identical to the one Salman Khan wears.
**Demand to halt the film ‘Kala Hiran’**
Salman Khan's counsel, Nizam Pasha, further stated that the film relates to criminal cases that have garnered significant media attention. Referring to the blackbuck poaching case, it was noted that four FIRs had been registered; Salman Khan was acquitted in three cases, while proceedings in one case remain pending.
The court was informed that defamatory statements regarding Salman Khan are frequently circulated in the media, prompting the request for a stay on the film.
Salman Khan's counsel also informed the court that the trailer for the film 'Kala Hiran' had been released on Friday morning. Noting this, the court observed that it was necessary to issue notice to the defendants before considering any interim orders.
**Court issues notice to the makers**
Salman Khan's petition was filed against producer Amit Jani, Jani Firefox Films, director Bharat Srinate, Akshay Pandey, and others associated with the project. In light of this, the court directed that a notice be issued regarding the petition.
The court also took up Salman Khan's petition seeking a stay on the release of 'Blackbuck: The Battle for Legacy'. The next hearing in the matter has now been scheduled for June 19.
