Watch: Nitish Reddy Destroys Gurbaz's Stumps With A Dream Yorker After 102-Run Blitz in IND vs AFG 1st ODI

Rahmanullah Gurbaz played one of those, finest ODI innings of his career in the first ODI between India and Afghanistan, at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. The Afghanistan opener went at the Indian bowlers from the first ball, and he sort of forced his side into a solid position, with a breathtaking century.

But then , right as Gurbaz looked settled for an even bigger score, Nitish Kumar Reddy somehow came up with a special delivery. The young Indian all-rounder bowled a perfect yorker, it crashed into the stumps and that was that… his innings ended like instantly.

Nitish Reddy Produces A Special Yorker

It all happened in the 15.3 over of the innings. Nitish Reddy charged in, released a full yorker, and aimed it at the base of the stumps. Gurbaz tried to get the bat down in time, and to dig the ball out, but he couldn’t quite connect.

The ball went straight through and uprooted the middle stump. The dismissal flipped the momentum immediately and gave India a needed breakthrough. For Nitish Reddy it was extra special too, because that turned out to be his maiden wicket in ODI cricket.

Gurbaz walked back after a standout knock—102 runs off just 51 balls. In his time at the crease, he struck eight fours and eight sixes. His aggressive approach kept the Indian bowlers on the back foot, and it clearly kept the crowd entertained in Dharamsala.

Match Situation After Rain-Shortened Chase

Because of rain, the match became a 25-over affair, meaning India had a target that required 187 runs for victory. In the chase, India got off the blocks with 8 runs, no wicket down, after 0.5 overs.

Rohit Sharma was there on 1 from 6 balls, while captain Shubman Gill hadn’t even faced a delivery yet. Afghanistan pacer Azmatullah Omarzai bowled the first over and conceded eight runs, including six wides and one no-ball. India also benefited from seven extra runs, which helped them start quickly even with limited runs coming off the bat.

India’s batting order still has plenty of firepower left—KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Reddy are waiting in the wings. With the chase reduced and the batting group strong, India will want to maximize this platform and grab a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
