A YouTube influencer was taken into custody near the Tucson, Arizona residence of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of the TODAY show, as the investigation into her disappearance continues. Although the Pima County Sheriff's Department has not linked the arrest to Nancy Guthrie's case, they confirmed that a social media figure was apprehended at her home, as reported by TV Insider.
Details of the Arrest
On June 11, 2026, shortly before 5:00 p.m., deputies detained 54-year-old Alexander Zabel Jr. outside Nancy Guthrie's residence. According to a media statement shared on X, the sheriff's department had received multiple complaints regarding Zabel's behavior leading up to the arrest. At the time of the deputies' arrival, he was live streaming from the location.
The arrest escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in a sergeant being knocked down, and Zabel reportedly directed a homophobic slur at one of the officers, as noted by the Arizona Daily Star. He has been booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex, facing charges of resisting arrest, classified as a Class 6 felony, along with a public nuisance charge, a Class 2 misdemeanor.
Zabel operates the CriminalNetwork YouTube channel and has had previous encounters with law enforcement at the same site. Just three days prior, on June 8, he was arrested with two other YouTubers on charges of obstructing a highway and public nuisance, according to a report from the sheriff's department.
In response to ongoing complaints from local residents, the sheriff's department has announced stricter enforcement measures in the vicinity.
Current Status of the Investigation
Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home on February 1, prompting significant media attention, partly due to her daughter Savannah's prominent position on the TODAY show. In a related development, volunteers from the Buscando Corazones group, based in Nogales, Mexico, conducted a search near the Mariposa Port of Entry after receiving an anonymous tip suggesting that Nancy's remains might be buried there, as reported by KPNX. The leader of the group indicated that the tip was received anonymously before the search commenced.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department acknowledged the tip on X, stating they were aware of the reports but had not yet been contacted by Mexican authorities. They confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing, pledging to follow up on any credible leads that arise.
