Emergency Alarm Service Suspended in Smartphone: Remember the emergency alarm that went off on your phone a few days ago? This sudden alarm caused widespread confusion. A major update has emerged regarding this matter. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has decided to temporarily suspend cell broadcast services. Officials say this decision has been taken as a precautionary measure and the service will remain suspended until further notice.

Why did the government take this big decision?

The NDMA has not yet provided a concrete reason for the sudden suspension of the emergency alarm service. However, the authority stated that this decision was taken as a precautionary measure. It is being reported that relevant government agencies are jointly reviewing the efficiency and functionality of this technology, which may further improve its accuracy in the future. It has been stated that no emergency alarms will be sent to citizens' phones until further notice.

Emergency Alerts:
This service was officially launched in May 2026. This service sent weather-related warnings, such as natural disasters, and other emergency situations directly to people's mobile phones. Following the alert, a specific message was displayed on the phone screen, along with a loud warning sound, to alert users and helps them protect themselves.

Cell Broadcast Message Service
(CBMS) is a technology that allows emergency alert messages to be sent simultaneously to all mobile users in a specific area. The purpose of this technology is to deliver critical information or alerts to people in the shortest possible time, enabling them to take appropriate action to protect themselves from any danger. This system has been used in recent months during severe weather-related situations such as storms, cyclones, heavy rains, and hailstorms.

The biggest feature of this service is that this alert will be sent to your mobile even when there is no internet. Apart from this, the most special thing is that the broadcast message is sent to your mobile immediately. There is no delay in this. The alert alarm of this message sounds very loudly, which draws everyone's attention towards it. This message is sent only to the area where there is a possibility of danger. This technology has been jointly developed by C-DOT i.e. Centre for Development of Telematics and Ministry of Home Affairs.
