West Kalimantan Governor Hopes Asian Teams Can Compete
The Governor of West Kalimantan, Ria Norsan, expressed that the presence of Asian representatives in the world’s biggest football tournament is a source of collective pride.
“I also support Asian nations participating in the World Cup such as South Korea, Japan, Iran, and Iraq. Hopefully, they can deliver surprises and show that Asian football continues to progress,” said Norsan after playing football with residents in Temajuk Village, Paloh District, Sambas Regency, on Saturday evening, June 13, 2026.
He further stated that the development of Asian football in recent years has shown remarkable improvement.
Therefore, he hopes that Asian teams will be able to compete with strong squads from Europe and South America.
On the same occasion, Norsan also emphasized the importance of sports as a means to strengthen unity and social cohesion among communities.
According to him, football is a sport that unites people from all walks of life, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or social status.
“Sports, especially football, have the power to bring people together. On the field, everyone mixes freely, supports one another, and upholds sportsmanship,” he said.
“This spirit must be maintained to strengthen our unity,” he added.
