What is SIM Swap Scam?

When your number is activated on another SIM card, the network in your phone is shut down and calls, messages, OTPs all reach the SIM card held by cybercriminals. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India shared a post on social media platform X asking people to be aware of this scam. It is necessary to take precautions to beware of cyber criminals. For additional security on your mobile number, use features like carrier PIN or IVR lock provided by the telecom company. Do not share OTP, banking details and password with anyone. If you notice anything unusual on your mobile number like sudden network drop, calls or messages stop, contact your service provider immediately and get the matter investigated.
