Arsenal have completed the signing of a much-talked-about young prospect, marking the beginning of what is expected to be a busy transfer window for the North London club.
The Gunners have reached an agreement to bring in a new youthful talent as manager Mikel Arteta prepares for another major summer of recruitment.
Following their most successful campaign in two decades — one that saw them end their long Premier League title drought and reach both the Champions League and Carabao Cup finals — Arsenal are now focused on building a lasting legacy.
Although Mikel Arteta is currently taking a short break, it is understood that the club’s recruitment department remains active, aiming to enhance the current title-winning squad and establish a sustained era of success in N5.
Despite heavy investment in the senior team last summer, Arsenal continue to prioritise youth development. Several young players have been linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium ahead of the new season.
Among the names on Arsenal’s radar are World Cup 2026 star Ayyoub Bouaddi, who is also being monitored by Liverpool, and Leicester City youngster Jeremy Monga, who could leave the Foxes following their relegation to League One.
Now, as reported by the Belfast Telegraph, the father of Larne teenager Phoenix Blayney has confirmed that his son has signed a pre-contract agreement with Arsenal.
Alex Blayney, himself a former Northern Irish goalkeeper, revealed that Phoenix, who has been on trial with the Gunners, will officially join the club on professional terms when he turns 17 in November 2027. He also noted that Liverpool were keen on signing the youngster.
Speaking about his son’s decision, Blayney Sr said, “Phoenix enjoyed his time at Arsenal; he felt an immediate connection and was impressed with the coaching staff. One of his close friends, Daniel Mccarron, is already at the club, and that probably influenced his decision as well. Both of them play together for the Northern Ireland youth team.”
Arsenal have placed significant emphasis on strengthening their goalkeeping department under the guidance of first-team goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana. In recent years, they have signed several players in this position, including Kepa Arrizabalaga as the backup goalkeeper last summer, as well as academy talents such as Tommy Setford and Lucas Nygaard.
In 2024, 16-year-old Jack Porter, born in 2008, made his senior debut for Arsenal after injuries to David Raya and Setford, with then-deputy Neto unavailable due to being cup-tied.
Since Mikel Arteta took charge, Arsenal have added at least one senior goalkeeper each year — Kepa Arrizabalaga (2025), Neto (2024), David Raya (2023, initially on loan before a permanent move was completed a year later), Matt Turner (2022), Aaron Ramsdale (2021), and both Mat Ryan and Alex Runarsson (2020).
According to FourFourTwo, Phoenix Blayney is not expected to be considered for immediate first-team action. Instead, he will be gradually integrated into the senior setup at the club’s London Colney training base as part of a long-term development plan.
