The central government is working on several health programs, and some are already benefiting people. One of these programs is the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Under this scheme, cardholders receive free treatment up to ₹5 lakh per year. However, some listed private hospitals often refuse to provide treatment based on the Ayushman card, citing network issues, unavailability of beds, or other excuses. What can you do in such a situation and where can you complain?
Hospital rules under Ayushman Yojana
If a private hospital is registered under Ayushman Yojana, then it cannot refuse treatment to any valid cardholder.
The government pays these hospitals as per the fixed package for treatment, hence they cannot demand cash from the patients.
In a serious situation or emergency, the hospital administration cannot say that the patient will be admitted only after the paperwork is completed.
Where and how to complain?
An 'Ayushman Mitra' is deployed by the government in the listed hospital, if you face any problem in treatment, first seek help from them.
If refused by the hospital, you can immediately call the government's national helpline number '14555' or '104'
You can also file an online complaint against the hospital on the official website of Ayushman Bharat Yojana (grievance.pmjay.gov.in).
