It is an unmatched example of Mughal and Rajput architecture. The lake built right in front of Amer Fort further enhances the beauty of this fort.
It took 100 years to build the fort
The construction of Amer Fort started in the 16th century during the time of Raja Man Singh, but its construction work continued during the times of Raja Sawai Jai Singh II and Raja Jai Singh I. Due to the efforts of these kings this fort got its present form. These kings paid special attention to the architecture of this fort, that is why it took a long time to build. 100 years passed from the reign of Raja Man Singh to Raja Sawai Jai Singh II and Raja Jai Singh.
Shila Devi Temple
Shila Devi Temple is located in Amer Fort. There is an interesting story behind this temple. It is believed that Maa Kali came in the dream of Raja Man Singh and asked him to find her idol near Jessore (a place located near Bangladesh). Raja Man Singh followed the mother’s orders, but not finding the mother’s idol there, he found a big stone. After cleaning this stone, the idol of Mother Shila Devi was taken out and thus the temple of Shila Devi was built here. Even today devotees have deep faith in this temple.
Castle of glass
This is one of the most beautiful places inside the fort. The specialty of this building is that the mirrors installed here have been installed in such a way that when light is shone through them, the entire building glows.
