Minister Krishnendu Paul during a review meeting on Thursday

Silchar, June 19: In Barak Valley, where the state of roads has long mirrored both the ambitions and hurdles of the region, connectivity emerged as a focal point on Thursday as two Cabinet Ministers conducted separate reviews of significant development and transport initiatives.

Krishnendu Paul, the Cabinet Minister and Guardian Minister for Cachar and Dima Hasao, who also oversees the Barak Valley Development Department, reaffirmed the government's dedication to the "inclusive and sustainable development of Barak Valley" and enhancing the living standards of its residents.

During the review of ongoing departmental projects, Paul emphasized the necessity for public welfare initiatives to yield immediate benefits for the community.

He revealed plans for a dedicated toll-free grievance helpline aimed at addressing public issues more efficiently.

"Public welfare projects must directly benefit the people without delay," the minister stated, noting that all departments have been instructed to ensure the prompt completion of both ongoing and approved projects.

The review meeting, which included Udharbond MLA Rajdeep Goala, concentrated on several key areas such as the conservation and enhancement of historical sites, bolstering sports infrastructure, promoting athletic activities, expediting the execution of sanctioned projects, and improving inter-departmental coordination.

In a concurrent review, Kaushik Rai, the Cabinet Minister and Guardian Minister for Sribhumi and Hailakandi, evaluated the progress of vital road and bridge projects alongside NHIDCL Executive Director Nirman Kishan Jambulkar.

Projects under review included the Malidahar–Badarpur National Highway, the Capital Point–Rangirkhari stretch, the Pailapool–Kumachhara road, the Silchar–Jiribam road, and the Sonabarighat bridge—considered essential for enhancing regional connectivity and alleviating transportation issues.

Rai assured that the government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is committed to ensuring the timely completion of these infrastructure projects.

"Our aim is to make transportation in Barak Valley safer, smoother, and more efficient," he remarked.

The dual review meetings have sparked optimism that long-standing infrastructure challenges in Barak Valley may finally see progress.
