DON'T MISS A MOMENT OF THE WORLD CUP

FIFA World Cup 2026 sets new benchmarks for attendance and television audiences as the United States Men's National Team (USMNT), Mexico, and Canada inspire historic levels of engagement across North America.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is already rewriting the record books both on and off the field. By June 17, more than 1.5 million spectators had attended matches, while over 54 million viewers tuned in across the United States, Mexico, and Canada to witness the host nations launch their campaigns. The tournament has produced record-breaking crowds, broadcast ratings, and digital streaming figures.

Fans fill stadiums across North America

The enthusiasm surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains unmatched. As of June 17, cumulative attendance had surpassed 1.5 million spectators across all venues in North America.

June 16 marked a new milestone in World Cup history, with 281,223 fans attending matches on a single day. Argentina’s encounter with Algeria in Kansas City saw all 69,045 seats occupied, while the France vs. Senegal clash at New York/New Jersey’s stadium attracted 80,545 spectators. Additionally, Norway vs. Iraq and Austria vs. Jordan fixtures recorded more than 98 percent stadium capacity, underscoring the tournament’s immense popularity.

USMNT drives record-breaking television audiences

The United States’ opening fixture against Paraguay became the most-watched football broadcast in American television history, drawing 27.5 million viewers nationwide.

FOX achieved a milestone with the most-viewed FIFA World Cup match ever aired in English across U.S. television networks, recording an audience of 18 million. Meanwhile, Telemundo made history as well, broadcasting the most-watched USMNT World Cup match in Spanish-language television history, amassing 9.5 million viewers.

Mexico and Canada boost regional momentum

Mexico’s first match of the tournament attracted an average of 23.4 million viewers, marking it as the nation’s most-watched World Cup fixture of the 21st century. An extraordinary 72.1 percent market share indicated that nearly three out of every four Mexican television viewers tuned in to El Tri’s opening game.

Canada also registered impressive figures, with an average audience of 3.1 million viewers. This made the match the third most-watched Canada Men’s National Team World Cup game of the century, reflecting growing national interest in football.

Potential for further records

As the group stage continues, attendance and broadcast records are expected to keep tumbling. The host nations remain pivotal to sustaining the tournament’s energy, with major showdowns and star-studded line-ups likely to attract even larger crowds and global audiences as the competition progresses into the knockout rounds in July.
