Manchester City are on the verge of completing the signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, with the deal reportedly in its final stages.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the agreement for the England international is close to completion. Anderson is expected to undergo his medical examinations in the United States while representing his country at the World Cup.
Romano provided an update on the situation, stating, “Manchester City are confident of concluding the Elliot Anderson deal, which is now at the final stage after extensive work behind the scenes.”
He further added, “A new round of discussions is scheduled for the English midfielder, who will have his medical in the US before joining, provided everything proceeds as planned.”
The potential fee involved is substantial. Nottingham Forest have reportedly turned down an offer worth approximately £106 million plus £15 million in add-ons, with owner Evangelos Marinakis believed to be holding out for a figure closer to £130 million.
If completed, the transfer would rank among the costliest in the history of British football.
Manchester City’s need for reinforcement is urgent. Bernardo Silva’s move to Real Madrid has created a gap in midfield, and new manager Enzo Maresca is eager to inject fresh energy into the squad’s ageing core.
Anderson’s dynamic style and ability to carry the ball forward make him an ideal fit for Maresca’s system, and he is poised to become the Italian’s first signing at the Etihad.
The 23-year-old has further boosted his reputation during England’s World Cup campaign in North America, particularly with an impressive performance in the 4-2 victory over Croatia — a display that highlighted the very qualities City have long admired.
Sources suggest that Anderson himself is keen on the move.
Thomas Tuchel has reportedly approved a mid-tournament medical, allowing Manchester City to finalise the transfer ahead of their pre-season preparations in July.
