International food magazine TasteAtlas has named the 96 lowest-rated street foods in Southeast Asia for 2026 based on over 9,600 verified votes.
Three dishes familiar to Vietnamese diners made the list: silkworm pupae, balut, and banh tieu.

Sitting at the very bottom of the ranking is fried silkworm pupae, a snack sold in carts on Bangkok’s streets. Silkworm pupae are deep-fried, seasoned with salt and pepper, and served with a dipping sauce. Locals describe the flavor as mildly bitter.
