Chelsea and Manchester City Near Agreement on Maresca Compensation Deal

Manchester City are reportedly closing in on a financial agreement with Chelsea that would pave the way for Enzo Maresca to take charge as their new manager.

Chelsea have requested a compensation settlement from Manchester City over Maresca’s appointment, claiming they possess evidence of an unlawful approach made by the Premier League champions towards the Italian coach.

The West London club allege that Maresca breached his contractual terms by engaging in discussions with Manchester City prior to officially resigning from his managerial role at Stamford Bridge in January.

Due to this alleged breach, Chelsea are seeking compensation for Maresca’s departure. His exit contributed to the club’s disappointing second half of the campaign, which saw them finish tenth in the Premier League and miss out on European competitions. Following Maresca’s resignation, Chelsea also had to pay compensation to secure the services of Liam Rosenior from Strasbourg as his replacement.

Although senior figures at Stamford Bridge reportedly believe they have enough evidence to escalate the matter to the Premier League, the club currently has no intention of pursuing a formal complaint. Instead, Chelsea are optimistic that a direct resolution between the two clubs can be achieved.

As per a report from The Guardian, negotiations between Chelsea and Manchester City—who maintain a generally positive working relationship—are nearing completion, with both sides confident that a mutual agreement will soon be reached.
