Nora Fatehi recently performed in her hometown of Toronto to open the prestigious FIFA 2026 tournament ahead of the high stakes Canada vs Bosnia match, and the moment turned out to be one of the most emotional of her career.
The dancer and actor delivered a performance that was as high energy as it was personal. For the first time in her journey, her entire family and closest loved ones were assembled in the stands, watching her perform live on one of the biggest stages in the world.
Taking to social media afterwards, Nora reflected on what the moment meant to her. “I’ve been performing for over a decade now,” she wrote. “I’ve been lucky to have massive moments in my career, and I’ve shared them with some of my favourite people. But never my entire family and loved ones at the same time.”
She described how different this experience felt compared to every other performance in her career. “This was the first time ever that I finished a performance and found all my loved ones together waiting to embrace me,” she said. “It was truly an emotional moment for me. I always go to work alone, and when I finish a performance I go home, but this time it was different.”
Nora revealed that her mother, sister and brother were all present to watch her perform live for the very first time. Joining them was her high school teacher, along with childhood friends and close confidants who remain part of her life today. While she admitted there were a few people she wished could have been there too, the overall feeling was one of deep gratitude. “My loved ones gathered to watch me for the first time live and celebrated with me for the first time,” she said. “I worked my entire life for this moment. No words can describe this feeling.”
Speaking about her contribution to the official World Cup album, titled Siir Siir, Nora explained that the track came directly from the energy of live sports rather than a typical studio session. “When I was attending the AFCON matches in Morocco in January, I heard almost seventy thousand fans chant Siir Siir in the stadium during every game, and I was in awe,” she said. She added that being part of a platform bringing together different cultures and sounds reminds her how powerful music can be in creating global connections.
While Nora headlined the Toronto ceremony, global stars Shakira and Burna Boy headlined the simultaneous celebrations in Mexico. For Nora, being included in such a prominent lineup felt like validation of years of work. “It’s been so exciting to be a part of such a massive mainstream lineup,” she said. “I’ve worked all my life to reach this level, to be sharing opportunities with such icons. The magic happens when different worlds come together and create something unexpected.”
For Nora Fatehi, the Toronto performance was more than just another show. It was a homecoming, a celebration with the people who shaped her, and proof that the dreams she nurtured growing up in the city had finally come full circle on one of the world’s biggest stages.
