Germany’s thrilling 2-1 triumph over Ivory Coast has ignited a wave of optimism across the nation, and Bayern Munich’s honorary president, Uli Hoeneß, has now added his voice to those who believe the team could go far in the World Cup.
Although the seasoned football administrator stopped short of naming Germany as favourites to lift the trophy, he commended the team’s fighting spirit and said that Julian Nagelsmann’s men have the potential to go all the way if they maintain their current momentum.
“It has to be said that Germany produced an incredible fighting performance yesterday. However, there are still some very tough obstacles on the road to the title,” Hoeneß remarked.
The 74-year-old highlighted the growing sense of unity within the squad as a major factor behind their resurgence. Under Nagelsmann’s guidance, Germany have displayed a level of resilience and cohesion that had often been missing in recent major tournaments.
“If they continue to grow together as a team in this way, and if the coach keeps making substitutions as effectively as he did yesterday, then anything is possible,” he added.
Nagelsmann’s tactical decisions played a crucial role in the win over the African side, turning a tense encounter into another success and ensuring Germany maintained their flawless start to the competition.
With six points from two matches, Germany have already clinched the top spot in Group E and can approach their final group-stage clash against Ecuador without the pressure of chasing a result.
