On Monday afternoon, 22 June 2026, Fluminense officially announced the return of veteran defender Thiago Silva through their social media platforms.
Just under six months after his unexpected departure from the club to join Porto in Portugal, the 41-year-old centre-back has now signed a new deal with the Rio de Janeiro side, extending until December 2026.
Thiago Silva is expected to report to the club’s training ground, CT Carlos Castilho, located in Barra da Tijuca in the western part of Rio de Janeiro, where he will rejoin his teammates as they resume training following the mid-season break for the Cup.
During his earlier spell with Fluminense, the player—affectionately nicknamed “Monstro”—made a strong impression. Between 2006 and 2008, he featured in 66 matches, scored five goals, and provided one assist. He also helped the club win the Copa do Brasil in 2007 and reach the Copa Libertadores final in 2008, where Fluminense finished as runners-up.
In the latter half of 2026, Fluminense will compete across three major fronts: the Brasileirão, where the team currently sits third with 31 points; the Copa do Brasil round of 16, where they will face Vasco; and the Copa Libertadores round of 16, taking on Independiente Rivadavia.
The Tricolor das Laranjeiras are set to return to action on 22 July at the iconic Maracanã Stadium, where they will take on RB Bragantino in the 19th round of the Brasileirão.
