Digestion: People often fall ill in summer. The heat of the months of June and July starts troubling people. In this season, digestive problems increase in people. In this season, the digestive system becomes weak due to which problems like acidity, flatulence, gas, constipation, nausea and loss of appetite start occurring. Many times people are unable to understand it by associating it with heat. According to Ayurveda, its root cause is to Agni (digestive fire) of the body. Ayurveda expert Acharya Manish explains that excessive heat, dehydration and changes in lifestyle in summer can badly affect the digestion process and the body is not able to digest food properly.
How is digestion affected by heat?
According to Ayurveda, summer is the season when the digestive system naturally becomes weak. Frequent sweating, dehydration, lack of sleep, stress and irregular eating habits can affect the stomach and its functioning. As a result, the efficiency of the digestive system reduces during the summer season.
What happens when food is not digested properly?
According to Ayurveda, if food is not digested properly then a poisonous substance called Aava is formed which gets accumulated in the body. This can cause fatigue, reduced immunity, poor metabolism, acidity and digestive problems. Every tissue of the body gets nutrients only through digestion. That is why poor digestion affects overall health.
Which everyday habits spoil digestion?
Lack of water in summer, unhealthy eating habits affect the intestines. Especially drinking excessive processed food, fried food, carbonated drinks, tea, coffee and eating at irregular times puts pressure on digestion. This can lead to feeling lethargic and tired. However, you can take some measures to strengthen digestion and improve overall health.
Keep drinking adequate amount of water throughout the day.
Consume coconut water, buttermilk and lemon water.
Eat light and freshly prepared home food.
Avoid fried, spicy and processed foods.
Eat things like watermelon, melon, cucumber and pomegranate.
Avoid overeating and eat only according to your digestive capacity.
Yoga to strengthen digestion
Ayurveda considers yoga, meditation and breathing exercises important for maintaining digestive balance. Cooling pranayams like Shitali and Bhramari are good to reduce the effects of heat. Morning walk, adequate sleep and a regular routine helps in improving metabolism and maintaining energy in summers. In this season, consume things like aloe vera, rose, gulkand, sandalwood, gond katira.
