Hours after the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2026 re-examination was conducted on June 21, the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Press Information Bureau's Fact Check Unit (PIB Fact Check) dismissed fresh claims of a paper leak circulating on social media.
Both agencies described the viral content as fake and urged students and the public not to rely on or share unverified examination-related material.
The clarification came after videos claiming to show evidence of a new NEET paper leak surfaced online following the re-examination. In a post on X, the NTA said it had come across a fabricated video linked to NEET-UG 2026 and categoricallyrejected its claims.
"NTA's attention has been drawn to a fabricated video being circulated on social media regarding NEET (UG) 2026. The video is fake and the claims it makes are false," the agency said.
The NEET-UG 2026 re-examination was conducted under heightened security arrangements after the original May 3 exam was cancelled amid allegations of a widespread paper leak and examination malpractice.
Meanwhile, the Students' Federation of India (SFI) has demanded that the NTA release detailed attendance figures for candidates who appeared in the June 21 re-examination.
According to SFI, several examination centres reported a significant gap between the number of registered candidates and those who actually appeared for the test. Citing reports, the student organisation said centres in Coimbatore recorded an attendance rate of 75.63 per cent, with 1,728 candidates absent out of 7,092 registered. In Tiruchi, 1,799 candidates were reportedly absent.
SFI also raised questions over the overall turnout, noting that around 22 lakh candidates had appeared for the original May 3 examination, while the NTA stated that "more than 20 lakh aspirants" appeared for the re-examination. The organisation sought clarification regarding the reported drop in attendance.
The student body further alleged that repeated controversies surrounding NEET, including paper leak allegations and the subsequent re-examination, had caused severe mental stress among aspirants and their families. It also criticised the Union Education Ministry and sought greater transparency from the NTA regarding the conduct of the examination.
The NTA, however, maintained that the re-examination was conducted smoothly and reiterated that the viral videos circulating online were fabricated and misleading.
