Stuart Broad Hints at Something Special While Talking About Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in England

Former fast bowler Stuart Broad is buzzing with excitement at the thought of seeing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi take the crease on English soil during the upcoming five-match T20I series between India and the Three Lions, kicking off on July 1. This will be the first time the 15-year-old has been called up to the senior squad ahead of the matches against Ireland and England.

Broad is eager for India to give Sooryavanshi a shot in the first T20I at Chester-le-Street, especially given his impressive form. The left-handed batter made headlines recently by smashing an 11-ball half-century in the Tri-Nations Series final against Sri Lanka. That kind of talent is something Broad can't wait to see, admitting he might just be starstruck watching Sooryavanshi in action.

“He's got it all, hasn't he? He's got it all. He's even getting into sledging now. OK, the cricket's too easy. 11 balls. That's crazy. I'm sure you're probably not hoping, but I'm doing the first T20 up in Durham against India, what's that, July the 1st? Wednesday, July the 1st? I just hope he plays. I really, I've actually got to be honest, I think I might be starstruck by him,” Broad said on the For the Love of Cricket podcast.

He also emphasized that Sooryavanshi is more than just hype; he’s the real deal. Broad had the chance to share the commentary box with Dinesh Karthik during England's second Test against New Zealand, where he got a firsthand look at just how talented the Rajasthan Royals prodigy is.

“And do you know what? It's not just us buying into the hype. I mean, you've obviously seen him, you've kept to him. I've spent the week with Dinesh Karthik, who's one of the coaches, an assistant coach at RCB. And, of course, I'm like, seriously, what do you think of this guy? He's unbelievable. He's seriously unbelievable. You can't get your head around how good this kid is,” he added.

In recent months, Sooryavanshi has quickly become one of the most talked-about players in Indian cricket. The 15-year-old opener made waves in the 2026 Indian Premier League, racking up an impressive 776 runs at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 237.30.

He not only clinched the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award but also took home the Orange Cap and the Emerging Player of the Season award all in one go. It's interesting to note that before heading to England, Sooryavanshi may have only played two T20Is in his international career, with India having faced Ireland previously.
