FASTag Rules: The FASTag annual pass is becoming a source of inconvenience for travelers as it is not valid on several highways and expressways. Priced at ₹3,000, this pass is valid for 200 trips or one year—whichever comes first.
FASTag Annual Pass: The FASTag annual pass, introduced to simplify toll payments across the country, now appears to be causing trouble for travelers. There were high hopes that the annual FASTag—launched on August 15, 2025—would facilitate smoother travel nationwide, but the reality is somewhat different. The pass is not accepted on many of the country's highways and expressways, forcing travelers to pay the standard toll tax.
The FASTag annual pass is valid for one year and costs approximately ₹3,000. It remains valid for either 200 trips or a period of one year, depending on which limit is reached first.
On which routes will the FASTag annual pass not work?
This facility is not applicable on several highways and expressways managed by state governments, including:
Atal Setu (Goa)
Mumbai-Pune Expressway (Maharashtra)
Samruddhi Mahamarg (Maharashtra)
Purvanchal Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
Yamuna Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
Bundelkhand Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
Agra-Lucknow Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
Toll operations on these routes are managed by state governments or separate authorities; therefore, the FASTag annual pass is not applicable there.
Why doesn't the pass work on these routes?
The NHAI designed the FASTag annual pass specifically for National Highways and toll plazas under the jurisdiction of the Central Government. In contrast, expressways and local projects managed by state governments operate under their own distinct toll systems, which the pass does not cover. This is why the pass is not valid on these routes.
How will the toll be deducted where the annual pass is not accepted?
People often wonder how the toll will be deducted on routes where this pass is not valid. Let us explain that at toll plazas where the pass is not accepted, the toll amount will be deducted from your regular FASTag account. In other words, even if you hold an annual pass, it is essential to maintain a sufficient balance in your FASTag account.
