Barcelona have taken a significant leap in their pursuit of Julian Alvarez, having now agreed on the terms of a long-term contract with the player’s representatives.
The Argentine striker remains the top target for the Catalan giants this summer, and their resolve to bring him to the Spotify Camp Nou has strengthened further following his recent public remarks about his future.
After openly expressing his desire to leave Atletico Madrid, the transfer saga surrounding one of the most coveted forwards in world football has reached a critical juncture.
Barcelona reach agreement with Alvarez’s representatives
According to reports from La Vanguardia, Barcelona have already set the framework for a five-year deal with Alvarez. Should the transfer be completed, the Argentine forward would remain at Spotify Camp Nou for the next five seasons.
Sources close to the club indicate growing optimism within Barcelona that the player has already been convinced to join them. The next hurdle, however, lies in persuading Atletico Madrid to enter negotiations.
Atletico Madrid remain firm on stance
Barcelona’s primary challenge continues to be Atletico Madrid’s refusal to engage in talks. The Blaugrana had earlier tabled an offer close to €100 million, but the proposal failed to elicit a formal response. Since then, tensions between the two clubs have only escalated.
Following Alvarez’s public comments, Barcelona’s management has now set a clear financial ceiling for the deal. Reports suggest the club will not exceed €120 million in guaranteed payments, though the total package could rise to around €130 million through performance-based add-ons and bonuses.
Atletico Madrid, however, remain adamant that Alvarez is not for sale and continue to point to the €500 million release clause stipulated in his contract. Despite this, many believe that the player’s determination to leave could eventually compel the Madrid side to reconsider their position and engage in discussions with Barcelona.
While Atletico’s contractual leverage gives them a strong hand, Barcelona are confident that Alvarez’s desire to make the move will ultimately bring both clubs to the negotiating table.
