Thiruvananthapuram | The Kerala government has appointed Niranjana N Nair, daughter of late Kannur ADM K Naveen Babu, as a Food Safety Officer under the compassionate employment scheme, according to an order issued by the Revenue Department on Tuesday.
The appointment comes days after the state Cabinet recommended a CBI probe into the circumstances surrounding Babu's death in 2024 and decided to provide a government job to his daughter on compassionate grounds.
The order granted relaxation in the income limit applicable under the scheme and directed the Food Safety Commissioner to take further steps for her appointment.
Chief Minister V D Satheesan recently announced that the Cabinet decided to recommend a CBI investigation to the Centre based on the request of the Additional District Magistrate's (ADM) family and also directed the Revenue Department to provide employment assistance to Babu's daughter on compassionate grounds.
Babu's family had sought the chief minister's intervention, expressing dissatisfaction with the police investigation into the case.
CPI (M) leader and former Kannur District Panchayat President P P Divya is the sole accused in the case.
Babu was found dead at his official residence in Kannur on October 14, 2024, a day after Divya allegedly levelled corruption allegations against him during a public farewell function at the Kannur Collectorate.
The incident had sparked a major political row, following which the CPI(M) removed Divya from key party and elected positions.
