Berlin. A technical glitch in the railway communication system in Germany late Tuesday night affected rail services across the country. Due to sudden stoppage of trains, thousands of passengers got stuck at various stations and had to face immense inconvenience. Long queues of passengers were seen at many stations, where people had come to get information about their onward journey and alternative arrangements.
germany national railway company Deutsche Bahn Railways said that due to a nationwide technical problem in the GSM-R system used for railway communication, the operation of trains had to be stopped as a precautionary measure. This system ensures communication between train drivers, control centers and different parts of the railway network.
According to the company, the source of the technical glitch has been identified and a team of experts is working to fix it. However, the initial statement did not clarify what caused the problem. Deutsche Bahn expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers and announced that it will provide facilities such as taxis and hotel vouchers to those affected.

Operating regional rail services in western and south-western Germany DB Regio Mitte also confirmed that services have been restored on several routes. However, it may take time for the timetable on many routes to become normal till Wednesday morning.
GSM-R i.e. Global System for Mobile Communications-Railways is an important technology for railway operations. Through this, voice and data communication is possible between train drivers and control centres. European Union Agency for Railways According to , since the year 2000 this technology has been used as a standard communication system in most of the railway networks in Europe.
In recent years, Germany’s rail services have been in the news for punctuality and operational challenges. Experts believe that due to lack of adequate investment in infrastructure for a long time, the pressure on the network has increased. For this reason, Deutsche Bahn is also carrying out large-scale modernization work on major railway routes, due to which services have been affected at times.
Although bad weather and storms have affected rail traffic in Germany before, this time a nationwide technical glitch in the communication system has raised new questions about the reliability of railway operations and network security. The Railway Administration has assured that continuous efforts are being made to make the situation completely normal.
