One of Brazil’s most prominent footballers is finally ready to feature for the Selecao in their concluding Group C match of the 2026 World Cup.
Supporters of the Tartan Army, along with the rest of Scotland, are set to witness Neymar’s much-anticipated return for Brazil in the nations’ final group stage encounter on Wednesday.
The star forward has not represented the Selecao since October 2023, but indications strongly suggest that he will get playing time against Steve Clarke’s men at the Miami Stadium.
The 34-year-old Neymar missed Brazil’s opening two Group C fixtures against Morocco and Haiti after sustaining a calf injury while playing for his boyhood club Santos FC. However, his participation in the final group game now appears not only possible but probable.
Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti virtually confirmed Neymar’s involvement during Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, revealing that the nation’s all-time leading goal scorer has regained full fitness.
“He is available. He trained very well this week,” said Ancelotti. “He is fit, capable and ready to play. We are delighted to have him back. He is an exceptional player.”
“He can feature either from halftime or play the full 90 minutes. He is in great shape. He has worked extremely hard, and he’s prepared to contribute,” Ancelotti added.
Neymar’s most recent appearance for Brazil came in a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay on 17 October 2023. Since then, injuries and other issues have kept him from adding to his 128 international caps and record 79 goals.
Neymar’s comeback would be a huge morale boost for Brazil as the five-time world champions aim to cement their position at the top of Group C.
The Selecao currently leads the group with four points, narrowly ahead of Morocco on goal difference. However, Scotland still has a mathematical chance to finish first if they secure a win and Haiti either draw or defeat Morocco.
The Tartan Army — the affectionate nickname for Scotland’s supporters — have been embracing the occasion in a lively manner across Miami over recent days.
Scottish fans have been spotted all across the city in the build-up to Wednesday’s showdown, from South Beach to a Miami Marlins game on Tuesday, which even included a spirited march through Little Havana.
Brazilian fans have also joined in the pre-match celebrations, creating a vibrant and boisterous atmosphere as the group stage of the 2026 World Cup draws to its conclusion.
