Puri Rath Yatra 2026: There is a temple of Lord Jagannath in Puri, Odisha. This temple is considered a part of the four holy places. Shri Krishna is present in the temple in the form of Lord Jagannath. The world famous Rath Yatra of Jagannath ji is taken out here every year. This is one of the biggest festivals of Sanatan tradition, in which lakhs of devotees participate. During Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath along with his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra ji travels on chariots to Gundicha Devi temple. Gundicha Devi is considered to be the aunt of God.

By participating in this great festival, devotees have darshan of God and pull chariots. It is believed that by doing this sins are erased. This year the holy festival of Lord Jagannath's Rath Yatra will start from 16th July and continue till 24th July. There are many mysteries related to Lord Jagannath. It is said that the Lord falls ill 15 days before the Rath Yatra, then medicinal offerings are offered to him. This time is called 'Ansar Kaal' or 'Anvasar'.

God falls ill after bathing

Snan Purnima is organized on the full moon day of Jyeshtha month before the Rath Yatra. On this occasion, special anointment of Jagannath ji, Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra is done with water filled in 108 sacred pots. It is believed that only after this Lord Jagannath gets fever. Then he remains ill for about 15 days. This is known as 'Ansar Kaal' or 'Anavasar'. During this time the doors of the temple remain closed and medicinal offerings are made to the Lord.

After this, when Lord Jagannath becomes healthy after this special treatment, the devotees are given his darshan. Not only this, after this the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is started. The religious significance of Lord's Rath Yatra is considered very special.

Rath Yatra has special religious significance

There is a religious belief that by participating with devotion in the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and pulling the ropes of the chariot, one gets special virtuous results. It is a popular belief that by pulling the ropes of the chariot wheels of Lord Jagannath, all the sins committed unknowingly are removed. Also one receives special blessings of Lord Jagannath. God is not just in the temples, rather he comes among the devotees and gives them darshan. This is the spiritual message of the great festival of Rath Yatra.
