Tottenham Hotspur poised to deepen Manchester United’s transfer woes

Tottenham Hotspur appear determined to become a persistent challenge for Manchester United during this summer’s transfer window.

Just as the Red Devils were nearing an agreement for Mateus Fernandes, Spurs, reportedly encouraged by their new manager Roberto De Zerbi, made a late move to hijack the deal.

Eager to outdo United, the North London club are said to be ready to meet West Ham United’s hefty valuation and are also preparing an attractive salary package for the player.

INEOS had been counting on the Portuguese midfielder’s desire to play alongside Bruno Fernandes to secure a deal below the Hammers’ asking price.

It now remains uncertain whether United will have to increase their bid. As previously reported by The Peoples Person, another West Ham player on United’s radar is Crysencio Summerville.

And, unsurprisingly, Tottenham are also attempting to interfere in that potential transfer. In addition, they now seem to have set their sights on Old Trafford itself.

Manchester United, the 20-time English league champions, are known to be open to selling Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal this summer.

Barcelona declined to activate their £26 million option to buy, and several clubs are monitoring the situation, with INEOS hoping to secure as much as £40 million from the sale of the Manchester-born forward.

The club’s co-owners would rather avoid selling to a Premier League rival, which is why they were hoping for interest from Bayern Munich or even Galatasaray.

Although the Bavarian giants admire Rashford, they are reluctant to meet his massive £325,000-a-week wage demands. As expected, few clubs are willing to take on such a salary, but according to The Sun, Tottenham might be prepared to do so.

The report claims that Spurs are willing to pay the England international’s full wages, a move that could potentially persuade the 28-year-old to consider the transfer.

“They have also had a bid rejected for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali and have been linked with Marcus Rashford.

“Rashford’s salary at United will increase to £325,000-a-week next month, and it has been suggested that Tottenham would be ready to meet his wage demands.”

While Rashford initially preferred a move abroad, Tottenham’s willingness to match his current pay could tempt him to relocate to North London.

Whether Spurs are prepared to meet United’s £40 million valuation remains uncertain. They might attempt to negotiate a lower transfer fee, especially if Rashford himself pushes for the move.
