Manchester City and Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement on a transfer deal for Elliot Anderson, who had been a primary midfield target for Manchester United.
As the summer transfer window opened, Anderson was widely regarded as United’s leading target. Despite Nottingham Forest spending much of the season fighting relegation, the midfielder impressed with a string of commanding displays in central midfield.
Although United’s interest in Anderson was no secret, it soon became apparent that the player’s preference was to move to Manchester City. A recent report indicated that United remained optimistic about persuading him to join them at Old Trafford, but in recent days, City emerged as the clear frontrunners for his signature.
Earlier this month, City had their initial offer for Anderson rejected. That bid was valued at £106 million upfront, with add-ons potentially raising the total beyond £120 million. The Premier League champions then returned with an improved verbal offer, which was also turned down by Forest.
Just moments ago, trusted journalist David Ornstein confirmed that City submitted a third and enhanced proposal, which has now been accepted by Nottingham Forest.
According to Ornstein, “Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. The agreement follows a fresh and improved offer from City as they pushed to close the gap in valuations between the clubs.”
He added, “The deal is subject to the 23-year-old finalising personal terms at the Etihad Stadium.”
Fabrizio Romano also verified the development, noting that a full agreement between the clubs has been reached after extended discussions. He reported that Anderson has asked Nottingham Forest to allow him to leave the club and that his medical will take place in the United States.
John Percy of The Telegraph further revealed that City and Forest have agreed on a deal worth up to a record £130 million.
This figure surpasses the previous British record transfer fee of £125 million, which Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer. Meanwhile, Manchester United are expected to shift their attention to alternative midfield targets, including West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni.
