Brian Brobbey is enjoying an unforgettable FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign following a remarkable start for the Netherlands.
The Sunderland striker began the tournament on the bench during the Dutch team’s opening fixture, but he has made the most of his opportunity since being introduced into the starting lineup by head coach Ronald Koeman.
Brobbey struck twice as the Netherlands demolished Sweden 5-1 in their second group match, before adding another goal against Tunisia to help the Oranje secure the top spot in Group F.
So far, Brobbey has scored three goals in just 154 minutes of World Cup action, an impressive return considering he had managed only one goal across 12 previous international appearances for the national side before this tournament.
According to statistics from Opta, Brobbey has become only the third player on record (since 1966) to score with each of his first three shots at a FIFA World Cup. The first to accomplish this feat was Hungary’s Laszlo Kiss in 1982, followed by Colombian defender Yerry Mina in 2018.
The 24-year-old’s clinical finishing has provided the Dutch squad with a decisive cutting edge, strengthening their attacking presence as they progress through the competition.
