Monsoon Health Alert: While the rainy season provides relief from the heat, it also brings with it many health problems. In this season, due to increase in moisture in the environment, bacteria, fungus and germs grow rapidly. This is the reason why even a little carelessness in eating can cause stomach diseases and infections.
Experts say that during monsoon, there are some vegetables which are more prone to growth of bacteria and insects. If these are not properly cleaned and cooked and eaten, they can have adverse effects on health.
Stay away from 5 vegetables in monsoon
Cabbage
Moisture can accumulate between the layers of cabbage, harboring insects and bacteria. It becomes a bit difficult to clean it during monsoon. If it is eaten without washing it properly, it can cause stomach infection and digestive problems.
Cauliflower
Small insects and dirt easily get trapped in cauliflower. The risk of fungal infection also increases during the rainy season. Before using it, it is considered better to soak it for some time in hot salt water.
Spinach and other leafy vegetables
Spinach, fenugreek, mustard and other green leafy vegetables can get contaminated quickly in monsoon. Soil, bacteria and parasites can stick to their leaves. Therefore, it is important to wash them several times with clean water and cook them thoroughly.
Eggplant
The possibility of insect infestation in brinjal increases during the rainy season. Sometimes a brinjal that looks fine from outside may turn out to be bad from inside. In such a situation, special attention should be paid to its quality while purchasing.
mushroom
Mushrooms are naturally high in moisture. If stored for a long time during monsoon, bacteria can grow rapidly. If the mushroom is not fresh then it can cause problems like food poisoning.
Take these precautions while eating vegetables in monsoon
Always wash vegetables thoroughly with clean water. Soaking leafy vegetables in salt water for some time can be beneficial. It is considered safer to eat well-cooked vegetables rather than raw vegetables. Also give preference to fresh and seasonal vegetables.
