In Sanatan Dharma, fire is considered one of the five elements. According to religious belief, everything gets purified by the touch of fire. For this reason, Havan is performed during the Griha Pravesh of a new house, so that the house gets purified due to the influence of Agnidev and the influence of positive energy remains there. This same Agnidev had to face a curse because of giving true testimony. Agnidev became so angry with that curse that he left the earth.
According to the legend, when sage Bhrigu could not control his anger, he cursed Agnidev. The effect of this curse is still believed to be on Agnidev. For information, let us tell you that Rishi Bhrigu is considered to be the son of Lord Brahma. Now the question arises that what was the reason due to which sage Bhrigu cursed Agnidev.
Why did Agnidev testify?
According to the legend, sage Bhrigu’s wife’s name was Puloma, who was very beautiful. Both husband and wife were living happily. One day, sage Bhrigu had gone to the banks of Ganga for worship in the evening.
Meanwhile, a demon named Pulom disguised as a sage reached the house of sage Bhrigu. Puloma treated the person disguised as a sage as a guest and treated him with respect and served him food. The demon Puloma became fascinated after seeing Puloma. He made a plan in his mind to kidnap them. After having dinner, he asked Puloma to accompany him, but Puloma flatly refused. The demon then claimed that in his childhood he had accepted Puloma as his wife. To prove his claim he had asked Agnidev to testify.
Agnidev gave true testimony
When the demon asked Agnidev the truth, Agnidev told that this is true to some extent. He said that once Puloma’s father had given a promise to the demon that he would marry his daughter to him and at that time Agnidev was present there. However, according to Vedic customs, Puloma’s real husband was sage Bhrigu.
On hearing this testimony of Agnidev, the demon started taking Puloma with him forcefully. Puloma was pregnant at that time. His son was born on the way. The brightness of the newborn baby was so intense that the demon Pulom ran away in fear after seeing it. Later when sage Bhrigu came to know about the entire incident, he cursed Agnidev.
Sage Bhrigu cursed Agnideva
Sage Bhrigu cursed Agnidev that from now on he would be called omnivorous, that is, he would consume everything good and bad. Hearing this curse, Agnidev became very angry and left the earth.
Seeing this problem, Brahma ji called Agnidev to himself and explained to him that without him it is not possible to run the earth. Also, to reduce the effect of the curse, Lord Brahma gave a boon to Agnidev that no auspicious work in the world would be considered complete without Yagya and Havan.
