Manchester United’s young transfer target Cristian Camilo Orozco, aged 17, is set to travel to Manchester this Sunday for a medical examination with the club. According to journalist Pipe Sierra, United’s chief South American scout, Giuseppe Antonaccio, will accompany the Colombian teenager, highlighting how seriously the club views this particular signing.
Orozco currently plays as a defensive or holding midfielder for Fortaleza CEIF in Bogotá and has already represented Colombia’s youth national teams on 13 occasions. Manchester United have been monitoring his progress for several months, with reports indicating that a verbal agreement between the club and Fortaleza CEIF was reached as early as October 2025. The youngster previously visited Manchester in December for a tour of both Carrington and Old Trafford, as well as a short training stint with the academy squads.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has described the deal as effectively concluded, with a transfer fee in the region of $1 million (approximately £750,000–£800,000) agreed between United and Fortaleza CEIF. The modest fee underlines that this is considered a long-term development project rather than an immediate addition to the first team, a view also reflected in the structured nature of the agreement.
The fact that Antonaccio himself is travelling with Orozco is particularly significant. Manchester United’s South American scouting efforts have often been discussed without yielding many visible results, but a senior scout personally escorting a 17-year-old through his medical signals a strong internal belief in the potential of this acquisition, far beyond what the transfer fee might imply.
However, supporters should manage their expectations regarding when Orozco will officially feature for United. FIFA regulations prevent English clubs from registering overseas players under the age of 18. As a result, Orozco cannot be formally registered until the summer of 2026, regardless of when the medical or other contractual formalities are completed.
In the meantime, the plan is for Orozco to return to Fortaleza CEIF on loan, ensuring he continues to play competitive football rather than being sidelined in an academy environment. Once eligible for registration in England, the teenager is expected to join United’s Under-21 squad, with reports suggesting he could also take part in a pre-season training camp in Germany as part of his initial integration process.
This weekend’s medical represents the final procedural step before the official announcement of his transfer. Manchester United are anticipated to confirm the move in the days following the examination, at which point further details about the loan arrangement and registration timetable are expected to be revealed.
Broadly, Orozco’s move reflects the growing success of Manchester United’s South American scouting operations. Antonaccio’s direct involvement indicates that the club is pursuing a deliberate and structured approach to academy recruitment rather than speculative signings. United’s simultaneous pursuit of Mateus Fernandes during the same transfer window further demonstrates a strategy that targets multiple age levels, balancing immediate senior needs with long-term squad depth.
Whether Orozco’s loan spell at Fortaleza CEIF progresses smoothly enough for him to arrive in Manchester next summer ready to contribute to the Under-21s remains to be seen. His adaptation period will ultimately determine how closely his development aligns with the club’s current timeline.
