Liverpool Make Key Call on Manchester United Target Bruno Guimarães

Manchester United achieved remarkable success in last summer’s transfer window, strengthening both their attacking and goalkeeping units with notable precision. However, INEOS have had a slower start this year, partly due to the ongoing FIFA World Cup, which has complicated transfer activity.

The Red Devils are now focusing on filling the void left by Casemiro’s departure, aiming to find the ideal midfield partner for Kobbie Mainoo and build a balanced core capable of driving future success.

Reports indicate that United have already finalised a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson. Nevertheless, with INEOS keen to stick to their Premier League-tested recruitment policy, they are expected to pursue additional reinforcements. One name that continues to be linked to Old Trafford is Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães.

Guimarães joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 and has since established himself as a vital member of Eddie Howe’s side. Known for his creative vision and defensive discipline, the Brazilian’s attributes make him a strong candidate to succeed Casemiro at the Theatre of Dreams.

It has been previously reported that Casemiro himself recommended Guimarães as his replacement at United. During the last campaign, the 28-year-old midfielder scored nine goals and provided eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions for the Magpies, starting in all but four of those games.

Guimarães has also featured in every match for Brazil at the World Cup so far, contributing three assists. A recent update from The Peoples Person suggested that Manchester United face competition from Arsenal for his signature, but it now seems another Premier League giant has entered the picture.

Speaking on The Redmen TV, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that Liverpool have made enquiries regarding Guimarães’ availability. He stated, “There was an initial enquiry on the player side with Bruno Guimarães, and we know in the last 24–48 hours Arsenal are the ones who have actually put a number over his head [submitted an offer].”

He further explained, “Liverpool just did what Manchester United did months back, rather than now, and spoke with the agent, and that was it.”

Jacobs went on to clarify that Liverpool are unlikely to advance any move for the Brazilian this summer. He added, “I’m not aware that they’re progressing there either, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they want a younger profile. Plus, let’s not forget that Newcastle United don’t want to sell.”

According to a report from The i Paper, Newcastle remain firm on retaining their captain and are confident he will commit to a new contract at St James’ Park. The publication stated, “Newcastle’s approach remains that they will not entertain offers for their key midfielder, and this comes alongside reports that the player himself is interested in signing an extension.”

However, the same report notes that Guimarães’ representatives are gauging market interest to assess potential opportunities. The Magpies are expected to demand a fee exceeding £55 million, and given last summer’s Alexander Isak negotiations, a transfer cannot be entirely ruled out.

While Newcastle might be tempted by a substantial offer, Guimarães’ influence on the pitch and his strong connection with fans make any potential move uncertain.

Guimarães’ technical ability, composure, and work rate would make him an ideal partner for Mainoo in Michael Carrick’s midfield setup. However, his age could be a stumbling block for INEOS, who appear focused on recruiting younger players yet to reach their prime.
