Carlos Queiroz has eased injury concerns regarding Antoine Semenyo after the forward was spotted limping towards the end of Ghana’s World Cup group-stage defeat to Croatia.

The Black Stars dropped to third place in Group L following their 2-1 loss in Philadelphia. Goals from Petar Sucic and Nikola Vlasic overturned Derrick Luckassen’s first-half equaliser for Ghana.

The incident that caused alarm occurred late in the match when Semenyo went down inside the Croatian penalty area. The Manchester City winger received medical attention on the pitch and briefly left the field before returning to complete the full 90 minutes.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Queiroz moved quickly to reassure fans that the player had not suffered a serious setback. “No, it’s just a knock, he will be alright,” the Ghana head coach told reporters.

Early indications suggest that Semenyo will be fit to feature in Ghana’s upcoming round of 32 fixture.

Reflecting on the defeat, Queiroz said the outcome was largely determined by which team committed fewer errors. “Croatia scored two goals, two easy goals. Much too easy, the way they scored,” he explained. “When you score one more goal than the opponent, you have the merit to win the game. Simple like that. It means we made one more mistake than the opponent, and when you make one more mistake than the opponent, that is it.”

Despite the loss, Ghana remain in contention to progress, with their fate now resting on the results of the final group fixtures.
