England manager Thomas Tuchel stated that the World Cup effectively “starts again” for his team after they secured the top spot in Group L to reach the knockout stages.

England earned a 2-0 victory over Panama in their final group fixture, though the match was far from straightforward.

Reflecting on the game, Tuchel commented, “We did what was needed. It was what we expected — a tough contest against a very physical side, difficult to score against. We were the only team to create this many chances and to find the net twice against them.”

He added, “We played with great aggression. We had to be cautious on the counter-attack because they are strong in that area. Overall, we performed well and deserved the win, but it was a hard-fought effort.”

Jude Bellingham impressed with a goal and an assist, earning the player of the match award. Speaking about the midfielder’s performance, Tuchel said, “Another strong display from Jude. We’re glad he’s maintaining this form, but everyone contributed. Jude played a major part in our success.”

England are still awaiting confirmation of their opponent in the round of 32. Tuchel remarked, “Now the tournament starts afresh as we move into the knockout rounds.”

He continued, “We’ll gather our strength and energy, and build on what we’ve achieved so far — the team’s unity, belief, and spirit. As the matches get bigger, we’ll continue to grow stronger.”
