Shrestha Iyer, the sister of Shreyas Iyer, has been in the limelight after her controversial remark about donating one point to the Kolkata Knight Riders following the match against the Punjab Kings that was washed out in Kolkata. The situation turned worse after Punjab Kings failed to qualify for the playoffs, and the margin was, ironically, that one mark. Not once, but Shrestha called out the trolling multiple times on her social media.
And now she went to the reality TV on Netflix’s Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa Season 2. When the host Ritesh Deshmukh brought the controversy in front of her, she clarified the same again that it was merely a "fun banter" common in sports. And she didn't mean to hurt anyone's sentiments.
But then, famous Bollywood choreographer Farah Khan asked her the most controversial question. Without any filter, she questioned Shrestha's credibility without her surname, "Iyer," and brother Shreyas Iyer's popularity. Khan asked,
“Mujhe joh lagta hai ki aapke naam se aapka surname hataya jaaye, then the story is very different. Aapki identity kya hai without being Shreyas Iyer's sister? (I feel that if your surname were removed from your name, the story would be very different. What is your identity without being Shreyas Iyer's sister?)”
To that, Shrestha replied that she is here at the reality show to clear her image and also explain her "authentic self."
"One thing I absolutely cannot tolerate is disrespect. I'm someone who treats people with kindness and expects the same in return. If someone crosses a line or misbehaves, I won't stay silent. I will stand up for myself and give it back tenfold. I'm coming into Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa as my authentic self, and that's exactly what people will see."

Shreyas Iyer's influence in Shrestha's career
Notably, Shreyas Iyer hardly meddled in Shrestha's career, even though he has featured in some of the reels and photos with his sister. Even though he had earlier openly claimed that he supported her in her career, he never officially promoted anything she did.
Not only that, he didn't say a word when Shrestha ran into the PBKS controversy. Shrestha, a choreographer and dancer by profession based in Dubai, had posted a long emotional post on her id after he got the Indian captaincy.
Shreyas, who was already the vice captain of the Indian ODI side, has been announced as the T20I captain till the Asian Games 2026.
