Monsoon Kitchen Tips: While the rainy season brings relief from the heat, it also brings many new problems in the kitchen. In this season, humidity increases in the air, which first affects dry food items. Things like biscuits, namkeen, chips, toast, khakhra and papad start becoming soft within a few hours. Many times, the biscuit packet opened in the morning gets damp by the evening and the crisp texture of the namkeen is completely lost. In such a situation, there is a need to throw them away. However, by adopting some easy home remedies, you can keep these things fresh and crispy for a long time. Let us know in detail.
Use airtight containers
After opening the packet of biscuits or namkeen, instead of leaving it in the same packet, immediately fill it in an airtight container. Due to this, moisture from outside does not reach inside and the snacks remain crunchy for a long time. Try to keep the container completely dry.
seal the packet properly
If a container is not available, fold the mouth of the packet tightly and close it tightly with a clip or rubber band. This will reduce contact with air and dampness will not occur quickly.
Use silica gel pack
Silica gel pack available with many food products works to absorb moisture. Do not let it come in direct contact with food, but can keep it in a separate corner inside the container. This reduces excess moisture. Keep in mind that silica gel is not edible, so keep it out of the reach of children.
Keep in dry and cool place
Avoid keeping biscuits and namkeen near gas stove, sink or window. There is more humidity in these places. Always store them in a dry, cool and clean place.
Open packets only as per need
By repeatedly opening and closing the packet, moisture keeps reaching inside. Therefore, buy small packs instead of big packets or take out only as much as you need and discard the rest immediately.
Once it becomes soft, make it crispy again.
If the biscuits or namkeen have become slightly soft, they can be lightly heated in a preheated oven for 2 to 3 minutes. If you don’t have an oven, heat it in a dry pan on low flame while stirring for a few minutes. Once cooled, they may regain their crispness to a great extent.
Keep these things in mind also
1- Never take out biscuits or namkeen with wet hands.
2-The spoon or scoop in the container should also be completely dry.
3-Keep the expiry date in mind and avoid storing it for too long.
4-Do not mix different snacks in the same container, as this may affect their quality.
