Elliot Anderson has successfully completed his medical with Manchester City in Kansas, paving the way for his £116 million transfer from Nottingham Forest.
The move is expected to be finalised before England’s FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash against DR Congo on Wednesday.
Once confirmed, the transfer will set a new record for Manchester City, surpassing the £100 million fee the club paid to acquire Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in 2021.
The 23-year-old midfielder’s long-anticipated switch to the Etihad Stadium has reached a crucial milestone after he underwent medical tests in the United States, marking one of the most high-profile deals of the summer transfer window.
Manchester City will pay an upfront fee of £116 million to Nottingham Forest, without any add-ons, for Anderson. The talented midfielder will strengthen the squad incoming manager Enzo Maresca is set to inherit, as club captain Bernardo Silva prepares to leave for Real Madrid on a free transfer on July 1.
England manager Thomas Tuchel had earlier stated that Anderson’s transfer would be finalised only after England’s group-stage campaign concluded, ensuring that the move would not disrupt the national team’s focus during the early stages of the tournament in North America.
According to Mike McGrath of Telegraph Sport, Anderson completed his medical with Manchester City in Kansas, with the deal expected to be officially concluded before England take on DR Congo in the Round of 32. This timeline corresponds with Tuchel’s previous assurance that the transfer would proceed after the group stage.
The completion of medical tests represents the final major step before the official announcement. Anderson has already agreed to personal terms on a five-year contract, with an option to extend for an additional 12 months.
The England international is set to earn an estimated £300,000 per week, plus bonuses. It is understood that personal terms had been agreed well in advance between City’s director of football Hugo Viana and representatives of the Newcastle United academy graduate.
The official confirmation of Anderson’s arrival will mark Manchester City’s first completed signing in what is expected to be a comprehensive summer overhaul under Maresca. Viana is reportedly targeting further additions in midfield, full-back, and attacking positions before the transfer window closes.
Anderson’s signing addresses a key need in City’s current squad. His ability to carry the ball, press effectively, and contribute technically from deep makes him one of the most complete midfielders in the Premier League heading into the new season.
Whether the announcement comes before or immediately after England’s match against DR Congo remains uncertain, but Anderson’s successful medical in Kansas confirms that only final paperwork stands in the way of completion. Manchester City are thus poised to unveil the most expensive signing in their history in the coming days.
