Lamborghini has a well-established tradition of launching multiple versions of its cars. Over the years, the Huracan alone has been offered in several variants including the base model, Performante, Evo, RWD, Technica, STO, and Sterrato. By comparison, the Urus — Lamborghini’s second SUV and the first to be produced in large numbers — stands out as an exception, with only three versions introduced so far. However, for enthusiasts seeking an even faster Urus, that appears set to change on July 1.
On Thursday, Lamborghini teased an upcoming announcement with an image that seems to depict an Urus featuring a distinctive twin-layer rear spoiler divided between the roofline and the tailgate. While no further details accompanied the teaser, the design cues suggest this could be a new high-performance iteration of the brand’s flagship SUV. The last model to fill that role was the Urus Performante, a more powerful version that has since been surpassed by the hybrid Urus SE, which debuted in 2024 as the updated base model.
The previous Urus Performante delivered increased power and shed roughly 100 pounds compared to the standard non-hybrid Urus. With the introduction of hybrid technology, the company’s SUV has become both heavier and more potent. Interestingly, Porsche adopted a similar approach with its hybrid SUV, creating the Cayenne Turbo GT — a model that went on to claim the title of the fastest SUV around the Nürburgring in 2021. Considering the prominent aerodynamic features seen in Lamborghini’s latest teaser, it’s plausible that the forthcoming performance-oriented Urus may aim for a comparable benchmark. More information about Lamborghini’s plans for its SUV lineup is expected to be revealed when the vehicle makes its debut on Wednesday.
