In this series, ICC and International Olympic Committee have officially announced the qualification rules for the event on Monday, June 29. ICC issued a statement saying that 6-6 teams will participate in both men’s and women’s categories in the Olympics.
When and in what format will the cricket matches be held?
Cricket matches in Los Angeles Olympics 2028 will be played between 22 to 29 July 2028. These matches will be played in T20 format. At the same time, the final of the tournament will be played on July 29. According to the International Olympic Committee, the top teams in the ICC T20 rankings of four continents in the men’s category will get direct tickets to the Olympics.
Will India get direct entry?
5 qualification places for each event will be decided on the basis of ICC’s current tournaments and T20 rankings. According to reports, the ICC T20 ranking of 31 December 2026 will be made the basis for this. One team each from Asia, Europe, Africa and Oceania will qualify directly. If we look at the current ranking, countries from Asia (India), Africa (South Africa), Europe (England) and Oceania (Australia) will get direct entry. Let us tell you, in place of England, Gate Britain team will play in the Olympics, which will include players from England, Wales and Ireland.
How will the sixth place be decided?
Apart from this, one place will be reserved for host America. However, the host country will get qualification only if it remains among the top-15 teams in the ICC Men’s T20 Ranking. The last and sixth positions will be decided by the new ICC Olympic Qualification which will be held in 2027.
