Manchester City have officially appointed Enzo Maresca as their new manager, marking the beginning of a new era at the Etihad Stadium following Pep Guardiola’s departure.
Maresca has signed a three-year deal to succeed Guardiola, who concluded a trophy-filled decade with City at the end of the previous season. The move brings Maresca back to familiar surroundings, as he had earlier managed City’s Under-21 side during a previous stint at the club.
According to reports, City paid approximately £17 million to release Maresca from his Chelsea contract. The Argentine coach has also agreed to a compensation package as part of the arrangement.
Speaking to Manchester City’s official website, Maresca expressed his excitement about returning to the club. “Manchester City is a club I know very well, and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me,” he said.
“City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful. For a manager, that is a dream situation. It provides the consistency I need to do my job effectively.”
Maresca added, “This will be my third spell here. I know this club, I understand the demands and I know the expectations. The quality of the people who work here is what makes it so special, and I want to thank them for showing faith in my ability.”
He continued, “I cannot wait to start working with the players. My goal is for us to win, play attractive football and embrace the pressure that comes with representing Manchester City.”
