Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus has intensified speculation over a potential summer switch to Serie A, with Juventus and AC Milan reportedly monitoring his situation. The Brazilian striker, who openly confessed that he has long dreamt of playing in Italy, also provided a candid reflection on his omission from Brazil’s World Cup squad, admitting that he agreed with Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to leave him out.
Striker opens up possibility for Serie A giants
Jesus has cast uncertainty over his future with Arsenal after dropping several significant hints about a move to Italy. Both Juventus and AC Milan are said to be exploring the feasibility of a deal, and the 29-year-old Brazilian has publicly acknowledged that he is open to the idea of a new challenge in Serie A.
“I grew up watching Serie A and always dreamed of playing in Italy,” Jesus told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “Scoring twice at San Siro against Inter felt like making that dream come true. I don’t know what the future holds; right now, I’m focused on my work, and we’ll see what happens with Arsenal.”
Honest reflection on World Cup snub
The timing of these transfer rumours coincides with a period of self-reflection for the Arsenal striker, who missed out on Brazil’s World Cup squad due to limited playing time under Mikel Arteta. Despite the disappointment, Jesus expressed no bitterness toward Brazil’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti.
“I don’t think I was even close to being selected,” the Arsenal attacker admitted. “There were others who had been called up repeatedly over the past year but were also dropped later. If you ask me whether I deserved to be on the list, my answer is no.”
End-of-season struggles cost him his spot
Jesus went on to explain how his form and playing time influenced his World Cup exclusion, revealing details of his conversation with Ancelotti. Although he started the year in fine form, a reduction in minutes towards the end of the season at the Emirates Stadium disrupted his rhythm and momentum.
“We spoke in January when I was scoring goals,” the former Manchester City forward said. “But towards the end of the season, I barely played. Honestly, that’s why I didn’t deserve to go to the World Cup. I completely understand the situation. Everyone must respect Ancelotti; he’s the most successful manager there is.”
Closing in on Premier League record
Should Jesus complete a move to Serie A this summer, it would end his pursuit of Roberto Firmino’s Premier League record. The Arsenal striker is currently just four goals shy of becoming the top-scoring Brazilian in Premier League history, a record currently held by Firmino with 82 goals.
Leaving England now for Italy would mean giving up the opportunity to surpass his compatriot and secure his place among the Premier League’s greatest South American forwards.
