A South Korean plastic surgeon has sparked online buzz after naming five everyday foods and drinks he says can make people look less attractive by causing facial puffiness, acne and premature skin aging.
Dr. Choi Hyun-nam stressed that the foods do not change facial structure but can affect skin quality and facial appearance over time, according to The Korea Herald.
Salty snacks ranked fifth on Choi’s list rather than being his biggest concern. He warned that instant noodles, potato chips, and seasoned crackers are high in sodium, which can cause water retention and leave the face looking puffy.

Sugary desserts such as cakes, pastries, and trendy treats like Dubai-style chewy cookies were fourth, followed by fried foods including fried chicken, French fries, and doughnuts. He said too much sugar can damage collagen, the protein responsible for keeping skin firm and elastic, while greasy fried foods may trigger breakouts and leave the complexion looking dull.
Processed meats, including ham and sausages, ranked second. Choi said these foods are often high in sodium, saturated fat, and additives that could worsen inflammation and accelerate skin ageing.
His top pick was not food; it was alcohol. Choi said drinking liquor could dehydrate the skin, weaken its protective barrier and speed up the ageing process. It could also reduce liver function, darkening the complexion.
