Brazil’s quest for a record-breaking sixth World Cup crown continues on Monday evening as they enter the knockout phase of the tournament.
Under the management of Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil topped Group C ahead of 2022 semi-finalists Morocco. They now face Japan, who finished second behind the Netherlands in Group F.
This encounter marks the 14th meeting between the two nations. Japan have managed to beat the Selecao just once in their history – a memorable victory that came when the two sides met last October.
The high-profile fixture will be broadcast live on ITV1 and streamed via ITVX, with coverage beginning at 6pm UK time. In the ITV studio, host Mark Pougatch will anchor proceedings. He will be joined by an expert panel consisting of Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira – who have long put aside their famous on-field rivalry from the 1990s – alongside Ange Postecoglou, who previously enjoyed managerial success in Japan.
From the commentary gantry at the NRG Stadium in Houston, the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans, ITV’s lead commentator Sam Matterface will call the action. He will be accompanied by former Arsenal and England defender Lee Dixon, who will provide co-commentary and tactical insight throughout the match.
The winners of this knockout tie will advance to the round of 16, where they will meet the victors of Tuesday night’s clash between Ivory Coast and Norway, scheduled for Sunday evening.
