Harry Kane is staying put! The Bayern Munich striker has decided to reject an approach from Barcelona and will commit to a new long-term deal with the German champions.

England captain Harry Kane has chosen to continue his career at Bayern Munich, opting against a move to Barcelona. The prolific forward has made it clear to the Spanish club that he is content in Germany and has no plans to leave the Allianz Arena.

Barcelona’s proposal dismissed

As reported by The Athletic, Barcelona have suffered a major setback in their pursuit of a top-tier striker after their enquiry about Kane’s availability was quickly rejected. Despite the allure of joining the prestigious Spotify Camp Nou, the 32-year-old, through his representatives, reiterated his full commitment to Bayern Munich’s long-term vision.

The Catalan side had been exploring options to find a successor for Robert Lewandowski, who departed the club at the end of the season. However, sources close to the England camp confirmed that no official decisions regarding Kane’s future will be made until after his World Cup commitments this summer. Nevertheless, early discussions suggest that the groundwork for an extended stay in the Bundesliga is already in progress.

Kane enjoying life in Bavaria

Since his high-profile switch from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, Kane has settled comfortably into life in Munich. Although he had the option to trigger a release clause this summer, the striker deliberately chose not to do so. The clause required Kane to notify Bayern of his intent by January, a deadline that quietly passed without any action—further underlining his satisfaction with the club.

This decision highlights Kane’s contentment in Germany. Having already claimed two league titles since his arrival, the former Spurs talisman believes his best chance of continued success lies with Bayern rather than taking the risk of transitioning to Spain’s La Liga at this stage in his career.

Record-setting performances and contract talks

Kane’s contribution to Bayern has been nothing short of exceptional. In the 2025-26 season alone, he recorded an astonishing 61 goals and seven assists across 51 games. His prolific scoring run has elevated him to seventh place on Bayern’s all-time scorers list, with 146 goals in just three seasons. With his current contract running until 2027, the club’s management is eager to secure his services for an even longer term.

Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sport, confirmed in January that the club remains proactive in ensuring their star striker stays. Eberl revealed that talks with Kane about a contract extension were underway. This aligns with Kane’s earlier remarks from November, when he downplayed any speculation about leaving by saying it was “very unlikely” he would depart the Bundesliga side at the end of the season.

Eyes on World Cup success

While his club future appears resolved, Kane’s current focus is firmly on international glory with England. The Three Lions captain has been in top form during the ongoing World Cup, netting twice in a 4-2 win over Croatia and once more in a 2-0 triumph against Panama. These strikes have taken his overall tournament tally to 11 goals and his record for England to 82 goals in 117 appearances.

As Thomas Tuchel readies his squad for their first knockout challenge against DR Congo on Wednesday, Kane remains the linchpin of the side. His decision to stay at Bayern provides much-needed stability and confidence for England as they head into the round of 32.
